I wanted to say thank you to everyone who sent Sleeping Duty to #1 in the categories Space Marines, Colonization, and Space Opera (free books) for these five days. It’s been really exciting to watch it climb. There’s a lot of discussion in the author community about whether it’s worth it to discount a whole book to free, but the free book has started to drive sales of the other two in the trilogy–which was kind of the point of the exercise–so that’s a good result.
With the publication of the grand finale, Like a Continental Soldier, my own thinking was that I wanted to make sure people saw the new book and the series it’s a part of. I also wanted to attract new readers, and that seems to have happened, going by the couple thousand downloads so far. When Sleeping Duty stops being free tonight, I’ll be able to sit down and start doing math and see how it all worked out. My fingers are crossed.
Also, it has been a lot of fun. The darn thing even got into the top 100 in free books in the Kindle store. Many thanks to everyone who downloaded it during this five day period, and that includes those of you on my newsletter, my blog readers, and all you newcomers. You’re all awesome. Just sayin’.
