This is the story of how my Waking Late trilogy (Sleeping Duty et al.) will become available in audio.
So, I’m reading my email. I have received a note through my fiction website from a company called Podium Publishing, which wants to talk to me about turning Waking Late into audiobooks.
I stare at it, puzzled. I never get email through my website, and when I do it’s spam. How is this spam, my brain wants to know. I read on. Podium has won lots of awards for its audiobooks. It put The Martian on audio.
I sit up straight. I loved the Martian. I got the audio recording for my sons to listen to with their friends on their high school senior trip. They all loved The Martian. My husband loved it and sat in the car in the garage (with the garage door open) finishing chapters of it before coming inside. Podium did The Martian? And has written to me?
I start getting excited. I look up the audio version of The Martian. Yup, that was Podium. Now I’m really excited. I check my writing group on Facebook. Podium is awesome. Everyone there says so. My friend Jessica sends me a Kboards discussion. Podium is awesome. Consensus there. My husband uses a well-known search engine, and finds that Podium has new investors. Good sign.
I actually speak to the acquisition editor on the phone and she’s lovely.
Long story short, I signed a contract with Podium for Podium to do the Waking Late books in audio. I think at least the first one will be out this year.
I am so excited about this! I can just imagine readers all over the world listening to Sleeping Duty on their morning commute to work. Yay!
Thanks! I’m excited, too. I’ll post updates as they come along.
Congratulations!
Thanks, Wesley! It’s great to hear from you.
