One of my favorite fantasy novels is on sale.
To celebrate the publication of the second book in her Gael and Keir series, my friend J.M. Ney-Grimm is putting the first book on sale.
Jessica and I have been friends for a long time. In college, we met studying karate and then shared an apartment in my final year at the University of Virginia.
Over the years, as so often happens, we lost touch.
One day, however, in my frequent visits to The Passive Voice blog, I noticed the sensible comments this J.M Ney-Grimm person was making. Half of that hyphenated name belonged to my college roommate, but who knew what the J stood for? I looked up her books and saw her author picture. It was her! I was too shy to reach out for quite a long time, but when my son started at Virginia I finally said something.
And we’ve been in touch by email ever since, with occasional meetings in Culpepper to talk writing and marketing. We now beta read each other’s novels, and she has been an immense help to me in improving my craft. Also, she’s a wizard with the visuals.
Anyway, her book The Tally Master, is on sale for 99 cents for a few more days. I highly recommend this book for fans of a rich, deep fantasy setting and an intriguing hero. Gael, a fallen bronze age mage, is a man with flaws, but he possesses the obsessive, masculine focus that so many of us want to see in our heroes. His determination to sort out the errors in his own tallies leads him to discover not only strange truths about his friends in the warlord’s citadel but about himself. And the secret he wants to discover? It’s more dangerous than he ever knew.
I loved it. I’m betting you will, too.
And now the second one is here! Check out Sovereign Night if you’ve already read The Tally Master.
